It’s Black Friday as shoppers up and down the country search far and wide in shops and on the internet to find the best bargains. Albion over the years have made many a bargain signing so in honour of the madness that is Black Friday we’ve come up with Albion’s top 5 bargain signings.
Players that come into the first team through the academy and excluded from the list so we won’t be seeing the likes of Saido Berahino despite him costing the club nothing.
Also to keep it fair in terms of inflation, only signings from the last 10 years will be considered.
Ben Foster – £4 Million
Over 80 league appearances. 2 x Fans POTY. 2 x Players POTY. England callup.
The most expensive player in the slideshow but at £4 million Foster has been an absolute steal. They prize money between each position in the Premier League is just under £2 million. Foster when fully fit easily saves you 10 points a season which could in turn make the club a lot of money.
Chris Brunt – £3 million
300 Appearances. Over 40 goals. Former captain.
An unbelievable servant to the club who has given his all over the last 8 years. Brunt really is a great professional and is one of the first names on the team sheet each week. It’s also fitting that recently he played his 300th game for Albion. £3 Million, 300 games. Nobody can complain at that.
James Morrison – £1.5 Million
Over 200 appearances and 40 plus goals. Fans POTY.
Much like Brunt, Morrison is a great professional and always gives his all for the shirt. Joining the same summer asBrunt the pair have been pivotal in the side ever since. He’s also been known to score a worldie or two.
Jonas Olsson – £800k
Over 200 appearances.
What a player Olsson has been for Albion, a pure rock at the back. He was relatively unknown when he signed for less than £1 Million back in 2008 but what a bargain Albion got. For years, he commanded the back line along with his partner in crime…
Gareth McAuley – Free
Over 150 appearances. Fans POTY. Players POTY.
“He’s better than JT”. This has to be one of Albion’s greatest signings ever. Joining on a free when he was 31 there wasn’t high hopes for McAuley at Albion. Now at 35, like a fine wine he’s just gotten better and better with age. He has to be considered Albion’s best ever bargain.
