Jonny Evans netted a last-gasp winner from short range to give West Brom a 2-1 victory over Stoke City at The Hawthorns.
Stephane Sessegnon broke the deadlock as he fired into the roof of the net to give the Baggies a 60th-minute lead, but substitute Jonathan Walters headed in Joselu’s fine cross to equalise for the Potters.
Stoke’s Geoff Cameron was shown a harsh straight red for an altercation with Claudio Yacob, and his side were made to pay as Evans tapped home in the third minute of second-half stoppage time to seal the victory for Albion
Here are five things we learned from the match.
Tony Pulis loves this fixture
The former Stoke boss has now lost just once in 11 meetings as manager in this fixture. Since taking over at the Hawthorns, Pulis has won all three of the matches against his former side.
The win also means that it is the first time the Baggies have completed the league double over Stoke for the first time since the 1976/77 campaign.
Jonny Evans
The addition of the Northern Irish defender seems to become more and more important every week. Evans’ versatility has been a great asset to the side and his consistent performances were rewarded with the winning strike.
Pulis praised Evans for his attitude when being asked to play at left-back and in the defensive midfield role, and Albion’s gain is certainly Manchester United’s loss.
Strong performance from the wingers
Sessegnon once again put in a strong display with a thumping goal which gave Jack Butland no chance of keeping it out.
On the left, Craig Gardner, who has been criticised in recent weeks, provided vital protection to Chris Brunt.
Callum McManaman came on for Gardner in the 92 nd minute and he had an immediate impact as his corner led to the winning goal.
Tyler Roberts
The academy graduate earned his second call up to the match day squad in the absences of Salomon Rondon and Victor Anichebe.
The forward appears to have a bright future ahead and he will be hopeful of some game time in the FA Cup third round clash with Bristol City next weekend.
His place on the bench will give the rest of the academy hope as they all look for a first team spot in the future.
A late winner!
Thankfully it is West Brom who were celebrating a last-gasp goal as they always seem to go against Albion!
The Baggies have conceded late goals against the likes of Liverpool and Everton this season and feels like a long time since the Hawthorns was buzzing after a late winner.
