West Brom have joined Stoke City and West Ham United in the chase for 20-year-old Colombian forward Mateo Cardona, according to a report in The Express & Star.
The report also suggests that continental sides Benfica, Monaco and Real Betis are also interested in signing the striker, but it is believed that the idea of a move to the Premier League appeals to him.
Cardona, who plays for Envigado in Colombia’s top division, would likely be keen on a move to England, but there are some stumbling blocks that could hinder the Baggies’ chances of attracting him to The Hawthorns.
Firstly, there is a doubt as to whether Cardona would be granted a work permit, and West Brom would have to make the case that he is an exceptional talent. If they can’t, there is a possibility that they could sign him then send him on loan to a European side until he met the criteria needed to get a permit in the UK.
Another issue is that Tony Pulis has been informed that he’ll need to sell some players if he wants cash to bring in new recruits, and with interest in the Columbian fairly high, that could leave Albion at the back of the queue.
