Last Saturdays woeful performance away at Southampton was followed up by a plucky, hard thought victory away at Bristol City in the FA Cup third round replay. As much as I felt sorry for the fans who made the trip down south to watch Southampton I also had a small amount of sympathy for the players in that it seemed the demanding winter fixture schedule had caught up with them somewhat, which is to be expected for a team with a small squad like ourselves. I just hope a good proportion of the fans who made the Southampton trip made the Bristol trip also.
We all know who’s up next. Aston Villa have been simply woeful this season and still look dead certs for the drop but four points from their last two games in the league and a win at home to Wycombe midweek in their FA Cup replay, they will perhaps fancy their chances against us this weekend. The do possess some decent players within their ranks, Jordan Ayew is undoubtedly a talented player and one to watch out for and Rudy Gestede is a big threat from set pieces and crosses into the box. However I am more than confident that, if our players perform to the best of their abilities, we will simply have too much for them and should run out comfortable winners. However, they do say form goes out the window for a derby game…..
Formation – 4-4-1-1
