Each week we’ll take a position in the West Bromwich Albion squad and look at 5 players Albion could sign in the summer to improve that position. First up it’s the goalkeepers.
Albion only have 2 first team goalkeepers currently at the club. Ben Foster has recently returned from injury and regained his number 1 spot as he eyes up a place in England’s EURO 2016 squad. Boaz Myhill is the number 2 at the club meanwhile Anders Lindegaard who joined last summer is out on loan at Championship club Preston.
Take a look through the slideshow as we pick out 5 goalkeepers Albion could look to sign in the summer.
Mattia Perin
The 22-year-old who currently plays for Genoa is one of the best young goalkeepers in the Serie A. He was Italy’s youngest player in their 2014 World Cup squad, later that year he made his debut for the national team. IT would take a big fee to prise the youngster away from Genoa but it would be a long term investment. He’s faced 82 shots on target in the league and saved 60 giving him one of the best save rates in Italy.
Michel Vorm
The Spurs backup keeper has made just 5 league appearances in 18 months so could it be time for the 32-year-old to have one last go at regular first team football? He earned great reviews with his time at Swansea and still has a few years left in him.
Timo Horn
Another young goalkeeper this time from Bundesliga outfit FC Koln. The 22-year-old kept 13 clean sheets in the league last season and has represented Germany at various youth levels. Like Perin earlier it would take a sizeable fee to sign Horn but it could turn out to be a worthwhile investment.
Guillermo Ochoa
One of the most memorable names from the 2014 World Cup. The Mexican International picked up 2 man of the match awards in just 4 games as he conceded just one goal in the group stages including a clean sheet against hosts Brazil. The 30-year-old now doesn’t get a game at his club Malaga. Time for a move away?
Asmir Begovic
The Bosnian keeper has yet to see his Chelsea career get going after leaving Stoke. The 28-year-old worked under Pulis at the Britannia Stadium so the relationship is there between the two players. Could a reunion be a possibility?
