Only a late Dele Alli goal prevented West Brom from taking all three points from their home game with Tottenham.
Alas, the England international’s 89th minute strike meant that Albion had to settle for a point, albeit one they would have taken if offered it before kickoff.
West Brom thought they’d secured the win when former Tottenham star Nacer Chadli fired home in the 82nd minute after a scrappy game.
West Brom sat deep and looked for a ‘smash-and-grab’ type win and Tony Pulis must have thought that his plan had worked perfectly until Alli’s late equaliser.
If you look at the stats, it’s hard to say that Spurs didn’t deserve at least a point from the game. They had 72% possession and 20 shots, eight of which were on target, so it’s tough to begrudge them the draw that keeps them unbeaten.
West Brom will take the point and move on.
Here’s our Baggies player ratings from the game:
Ben Foster - 9
Foster was in superb form, making some great saves. Not much he could have done about the goal. His wonderful late save earned Albion a point.
Craig Dawson - 6
Was a bit sloppy with the ball but defended pretty well against Erik Lamela
Jonny Evans - 6
Was bailed out for a late foul on Son by Foster. Overall he defended well though.
Gareth McAuley - 7
Probably West Brom’s best defender. Came close to scoring on a corner but couldn’t quite get the ball out of his feet.
Allan Nyom - 5
Looked a bit lost to be honest. Spurs love rotating players and Nyom didn’t know whether he was coming or going.
Darren Fletcher - 5
Not quite right again. He did get an injury on international duty so maybe that was bothering him, but he looked off the pace.
Claudio Yacob - 7
Yacob was his usual, combative self and unlike Fletcher, he didn’t look physically outmatched by Spurs.
Matt Phillips - 6
Didn’t really get a chance to impose himself as an attacking threat due to Spurs’ dominance but put in a good shift defensively.
James McClean - 8
Excellent once again. Worked hard to stop Kyle Walker and was dangerous in attack too.
Nacer Chadli - 7
Was beginning to look like he was going to be kept quiet but when a chance fell to him, he showed his killer instinct.
Salomon Rondon - 5
Looked slow, possibly feeling the effects of playing in South America
(Sub) Chris Brunt - 7
Came back from his long injury lay off and put in some great crosses. Took the corner from which West Brom scored.
