Pulis trying to put Berahino ‘back on track’
West Brom manager Tony Pulis has said that the club’s aim is to get Sadio Berahino ‘back on track’ no matter what the time scale may be, as the striker has not featured in a game since the defeat to Bournemouth.
The 23-year-old’s career has stagnated in recent times with the most recent concern being from medical staff regarding his weight, as the player was revealed to be 8lbs over his ideal weight, which led to him being placed on a tailored weight loss programme.
Speaking to Express and Star, Tony Pulis has said the majority of what is spoken about at the club is Berahino and that he wants to get the player back on the right path:
“People are talking about his weight but every aspect of what we are trying to do now is put Saido on the right track,” said Pulis. “Whether it takes six weeks or whatever. This is very important for him and important for us.”
“The majority of stuff we have talked about since I have been here, 70 per cent of it has been Saido.” he added.
“He is worth fighting for. We are prepared to lay things down and hopefully clear a path for him where he comes through and at the end plays at the level he did when I was first here.”
The club has also looked to repair the relationship with the player, of whom is still seen as a valuable asset, with chairman John Williams recently sitting down with the player in an attempt to build bridges after the relationship between the player and the club had turned sour.
Pulis added: “We are hoping this will just clear his mind on everything and get him to a level where he is concentrating on his game but also fit enough to play that game.
“I know it will sound strange to some people. Some will recognise and see it is the right thing to do, others will have their own thoughts. It’s the best we think we can do and the boy can do for us.”
