West Brom made it back-to-back wins to close out 2016 and welcome in the new year when they dispatched Hull 3-1 at the Hawthorns.
The Baggies went behind in the first half when Robert Snodgrass gave Hull the lead and the visitors were well on top at the interval before Chris Brunt levelled things up with a well-timed header shortly after the restart.
Gareth McAuley, the oldest outfield player in the Premier League, handed the hosts a much-deserved second half lead with another excellent header before James Morrison put the game beyond doubt.
The win saw Tony Pulis’ men rise to eighth in the Premier League table and they’re beginning to elevate themselves above the mid-table mediocrity they had become accustomed to.
Here are our player ratings from yesterday’s win.
Ben Foster - 7
Made a number of solid saves in the first-half to keep the Baggies in the game.
Craig Dawson - 6
Struggled to make an impact at right-back.
Gareth McAuley - 8
Made a goal-saving block in the first-half to keep the game at 1-0. Took his header brilliantly to hand the Baggies the lead.
Chris Brunt - 7
Injury forced him off a half hour into the game, could be a big miss in the next few games.
Chris Brunt - 7
Great header to bring West Brom level, was a threat down the left all game.
Claudio Yacob - 8
Our man of the match. Was immense in midfield breaking up play and making crunching tackles. Distributed the ball excellently and kept the Baggies ticking over.
Darren Fletcher - 7
A great complement to Yacob in the middle and gives the side a vital engine.
Nacer Chadli - 6
Not playing at his previous level and looks short of confidence.
Matt Phillips - 8
Playing as well as he ever has for West Brom, bagged himself another couple of assists.
James Morrison - 7
A well-taken goal to secure all three points. A much-improved second-half performance.
Salomon Rondon - 7
A willing worker and runner. Wasn’t blessed with a number of goalscoring opportunities but was always looking to bring others into play.
Allan Nyom - 8
Changed the game when he came on for the stricken Evans. Gave the Baggies an outlet and was strong in attack and defence.
Hal Robson-Kanu - 7
A bright showing off the bench again and is deserving of more minutes.
