The Southampton captain handed in a transfer request earlier this month to force through a move from St. Mary’s after a seven-year stay at the club and isn’t short of suitors.
West Ham are also in talks to sign the Euro 2016 winner while Ronald Koeman wants to reunite with the towering Portuguese defender at Everton. Manchester United have also been linked.
It’s being reported that the Baggies have agreed a deal with Fonte, but the centre-back is likely to reject a move to the Hawthorns in favour of West Ham should the Hammers get a deal over the line.
With both Gareth McAuley and Jonas Olsson free agents at the end of the season Tony Pulis wants to bring in another centre-back to prepare for their possible departures but it remains to be seen if Fonte’s that man.
