The end of the Premier League is in sight and it’s around this time of year that fans start to believe that it could be their season.
West Brom fans have seen their side enjoy an impressive domestic campaign leaving the Baggies on the verge of European qualification.
Tony Pulis’ side are currently eighth in the Premier League table, four points behind Everton in seventh, who they face in a couple of weeks.
Qualification for the Europa League can become quite complicated, with rules changing and the FA Cup, as well as the League Cup results playing a role in who qualifies for what.
So here is how the Baggies can qualify for the Europa League this season..
Finishing 5th
Probably the most unlikely route the club would take, but finishing just outside of the top four would secure a place in the Europa League group stage.
The Baggies are currently 12 points away from Liverpool in fifth.
Finishing 6th
If West Brom finish sixth in the Premier League and the League Cup winners finish inside the top four, they’ll make the third qualifying round of the Europa League.
If the winners of the FA Cup finish inside of the top four and the League Cup winners do not, sixth place will also qualify.
If Manchester United win the League Cup and finish inside the top four, sixth place will qualify for the Europa League.
Finishing 7th
If both the League Cup winners and the FA Cup winners finish inside the top four, a Europa League place goes to the team who finish seventh in the league.
This happened last season with West Ham and could again this year. For exampel If Manchester United win the League Cup and Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham or Man City win the FA Cup and both finish inside top four, the Baggies could qualify by finishing seventh.
Of course, if United do the cup double and finish in the top four, the same applies.
Hope Manchester United don't win the Europa League and finish outside top four
Should Manchester United go on to win the Europa League this season, the Premier League will be allowed five teams in the Champions League next season.
If they win it and finish fifth, they would get a spot in the Champions League as their reward, but the Premier League would lose a spot in the Europa League and have only two teams compete in it next season.
Hope a Premier League team doesn't win the Champions League and finish outside top four
If a Premier League wins the Champions League and finishes outside of the top four, the team finishing fourth in the Premier League would lose their place in the Champions League and drop into the Europa League.
This happened in 2012 when Chelsea won the competition but finished outside the top four, Tottenham were forced to play in the Europa League next season, despite finishing fourth.
As a result this would mean finishing seventh would not result in European qualification for the Baggies.
