West Brom are interested in signing centre-back Ahmed Hegazy from Egyptian Premier League side Al Ahly, according to a report from Matt Wilson of the Express & Star.
The Baggies are in the market for at least one more central defender and they were in talks to sign Kurt Zouma on loan from Chelsea. However, that potential deal broke down as the Premier League champions are reportedly asking for an £8million loan fee, an amount that the Baggies refused to pay just to have the player for a season.
Instead, West Brom are now looking at taking Hegazy on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
At 6ft 5in, Hegazy certainly has the physical stature that Tony Pulis likes from a central defender and it looks like he’s keen to bring him to the club.
The Egyptian international is looking for another crack at European football after his time in Italy was hampered by injuries and West Brom could be the team to give him that opportunity.
