An official from West Brom was spotted in Benfica on Tuesday night watching long term target Andreas Samaris in Champions League action, according to a report from sportwitness.
Samaris, 28, was believed to be a target for the Baggies over the summer, and they reportedly had a €20 million offer turned down by the Portuguese giants for the Greek international.
Portuguese media organisation A Bola published a list of scouts who turned up for the game, most of them were regular visitors, however, for the first time, a West Brom scout turned up to the Estadio da Luz.
Benfica ended their miserable Champions League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Basel, finishing bottom in their group, failing to pick up a point.
Samaris played 73 minutes during the match, and it is believed that the club are still keen on bringing the player to the Hawthorns in January to link up with new manager Alan Pardew.
