Aston Villa’s on-loan goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is set to return to parent club Manchester United to complete his move to West Brom, according to the International Business Times.
The 24-year-old has impressed at Villa Park. Johnstone has made 24 appearances this season as Villa look to gain promotion to the Premier League. However, Johnstone’s second loan deal at the Birmingham club is set to end, as he moves to West Brom.
Johnstone failed to make a single first team appearance at Manchester United, spending time out on loan at a variety of football league clubs. However, the 24 year old really shined whilst playing for Villa, becoming the starting goalkeeper not long after joining the club last season.
Johnstone’s arrival could see the departure of long term Albion stalwart Boaz Myhill. Ben Foster is also 34 and has had multiple operations to repair knee injuries as of late, meaning that Johnstone could be seen as Albion’s future number one.
