West Brom avoided a cup upset as they travelled to the West Country to face an in-form Exeter City side.
On the day the Premier League outfit were just too much for Paul Tisdale’s men, as Alan Pardew booked his place in the next round of the draw.
Goals came from Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez to secure the new West Brom manager’s first victory at the club.
Here’s how we rated the players at the full-time whistle.
Ben Foster - 5
Not his best showing and came close to making a couple of big errors. Some would cite the horrible condition of the pitch though.
Allan Nyom - 6
Didn’t have a lot to deal with and had a fairly comfortable afternoon.
Gareth McAuley - 7
Proved his worth to Pardew with a solid performance at the back.
Ahmed Hegazi - 8
Another strong performance from the central defender. Unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
Kieran Gibbs - 5
The former Arsenal man was an early subsitute through injury.
Christ Brunt - 7
Brunt was solid and dependable in what could have been a tricky fixture. Also slotted in at left back after Gibbs went off injured.
Grzegorz Krychowiak - 7
One of his better performances under Pardew, may well have worked himself back into the manager’s plans.
Gareth Barry - 8
Continues to impress despite his tender age of 36. Dictated play through midfield excellently.
James McClean - 6
Provided a good burst of much-needed pace out wide.
Jay Rodriguez - 7
Scored the Baggies’ second goal of the game and played a big part in winning the penalty. A solid performance from Rodriguez.
Salomon Rondon - 6
Started the game so well with an early goal but struggled from there on in.
Subs:
Hal Robson-Kanu – 4, put in a contender for one of the worst penalties you may have ever seen. Struggled from there on in.
Sam Field – 6, put together a few nice pieces of play and looked like a more than capable option for Pardew.
Jake Livermore – 6, came on in the last 10 to help see the game out.
