The powers-that-be at Newcastle United have given their approval for Steve McClaren’s wish to make an £18million bid for West Brom striker Saido Berahino, according to Sami Mokbel of The Mail.
As is common knowledge, Berahino’s summer was eventful, with a near-deadline day move to Spurs eventually falling through.
As the January window is now open, the speculation surrounding his future is, of course, rife once again.
There have been stories linking him with moves to Manchester United, Newcastle and once again, Tottenham, but it looks like Newcastle are the side ready to make a move to bring in the England U21 striker.
According to Mokbel’s report, Tony Pulis is ready to let the 22-year-old leave as he has been told that he must raise his own funds if he wants to make any January additions of his own.
Newcastle sit just two points above the relegation zone and are keen to bring in reinforcements to help in a probable relegation fight.
