The joys of away days with the Albion
One great thing about football is travelling up and down the country with the club that you love; regardless if you’re with your friends or family, it will always be a thrill ride gushing with pride and excitement on every occasion, especially with the Albion.
As a fan of the club, I can honestly can’t say I’ve never had a negative experience away from home even if the game itself hasn’t been that exciting. Also, now that away games have been capped at £30 for adults for Premier League football, it is definitely value for money.
There is nothing better than wearing your colours on your sleeve standing with your friends in a stand against your local rivals, even better when you’re 5-1 up. That day was electrifying. I will never forget the day when the low driven cross found Peter Odemwingie open in the penalty area for him to stick it home; running away towards the Albion end with three fingers pointing to the sky. By far the best away game I have been to.
In regards to this season, the best away game so far has to be Leicester away without a doubt. For a game to be shared on Remembrance Sunday is always special for obvious reasons. The atmosphere from our end was something else from the first whistle to the last. When Matt Phillips poked it in from close range, I couldn’t help myself from hugging and celebrating with fellow Baggies fans. Other games that stick out for me are Stoke and West Ham away purely for the fact that we scored last minute to clinch vital points which may accumulate for our highest finish and points tally ever in the Premier League.
At Old Trafford, I was genuinely disappointed by the lack of noise coming from the home fans. I was always under the impression that Old Trafford had one of the best atmospheres in the country and on Saturday, they were far from it which lead to a chant of “70,000 and you still don’t sing” blaring on numerous occasions from our end. It’s moments like this why I love away days.
