Who should West Brom have signed from their summer failings?
It’s safe to say the Baggies have had an inconsistent start to the Premier League campaign.
Early victories against Bournemouth and Burnley have been followed up with three draws and two defeats. Those three draws have come at home to Stoke, West Ham and Watford, three teams we really should be beating if we are to improve on last season’s points tally.
So what’s the reason behind it? Most felt we had arguably our best ever transfer window in the summer, however it’s no secret that the club missed out on a few prime targets.
Is missing out on some of these the reason why we haven’t had as good a start to this campaign as we would have hoped?
I’ve listed six players who we were heavily linked with over the summer. Who do you think from the following would have made a difference to the club’s average start to the campaign?
You ultimately voted for .
Troy Deeney - Watford - Striker
It’s no secret that Pulis is a big admirer of the 29-year-old Watford hit-man. With Jay Rodriguez struggling to make the immediate impact he would have liked and both Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson-Kanu struggling to find any form, would Deeney have made a difference to our goals tally?
Vincent Janssen - Tottenham - Striker
Heavily linked on the last day of the window, the 23-year-old striker ended up going out on loan, from Spurs to Turkish giants Fenerbache.
Much like Troy Deeney, would the goals now be flowing if the Dutchman was brought in?
Ben Gibson - Middlesbrough - Centre Back
Even though the club is well stocked with centre-backs, apart from the first two games of the season, we have looked considerably shaky at the heart of defence.
Should the club have done more to bring in the promising 24-year-old centre-back from Middlesbrough?
Bacary Sagna - Free Agent - Right Back
The out of contract 34-year-old right-back wasn’t linked as heavily as the others but there were definite whispers over a potential deal being done.
Would the French veteran have been a better option than either Allan Nyom or Craig Dawson?
Kamil Grosicki - Hull - Winger
After the transfer window closed the player announced that the Baggies had been interested in securing his services.
The 29-year-old Polish winger has since been tearing it up in the second tier of English football. Would you have liked to have seen him brought in?
Stuart Armstrong - Celtic - Attacking Midfielder
The 25-year-old’s name came up a few times in the window and with the player’s contract talks breaking down, a move south of the border looked on the cards.
He’s since singed a new deal with the Hoops but should the club have made more of an effort to secure his services?
