Oliver Burke – What a waste of money!
When West Brom splashed out £15m on Oliver Burke in the summer, many fans became increasingly excited about the attacking ability and pace of the youngster. However, he has been overlooked by four managers in a torrid campaign for the Baggies.
The young Scotsman has made only two starts this season whilst coming off the bench thirteen times.
The 21-year-old certainly has not had a chance to impress on the pitch with limited game time but there has to be a reason why that’s the case.
Many Albion fans see Burke as being a big part of the club’s plans next season as they’ll look to bounce straight back to the Premier League, but is he good enough?
As bad as Albion managers have been this year, especially Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew none of the four men who’ve had spells in charge, including Gary Megson and Darren Moor,e have backed Burke to play a vital part in Albion’s plans .
The question is, why?
Se.
When he has come off the bench in his limited game time, he hasn’t done too much to impress. His pace is frightening but he seems to have not much else to his game in terms of an end product.
Yes, he is only 21-years -old, but to spend £15m on a player who does not seem to have Premier League ability is a waste, especially for a side like Albion.
He had a good run in the Nottingham Forest side in 2015-16 season which is where he caught the eye of RB Leipzig, earning a £15m move but just like at Albion, he did not impress in Germany.
The winger has also struggled at international level, being pushed down to the Scotland under-21 squad of late.
He has five Scotland caps to his name but let’s be honest, Scotland are a poor side and for a £15m player not to be in the squad, serious questions need to be asked of the player and of Albion’s spending.
The forward said he came to Albion to get more game time but with this not being the case, could we see him being moved on and would it really be that big of a miss?
Burke made his name in the Championship and may well be a really important player for the Baggiesas they look to get back in the Premier League next season but at this moment, it seems like he has not been doing enough and Albion’s four managers this season seem to agree.
A waste of money? I think so.
