West Brom have been named a price of £7 million for Rangers captain James Tavernier.
The defender had been the subject of a £3 million bid from the Baggies yesterday, but it seems that figure isn’t even close to what new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has in mind.
Premier League outfit Brighton had also reportedly been chasing a move for Tavernier all summer.
TEAMtalk claim that the £7 million asking price is just to draw the bid higher, and suggest that sources at Ibrox don’t think it will take much more than West Brom’s original bid to be given the green light and proceed with personal negotiations.
The West Midlanders have been keen to add a defender in the latter half of their window, but have encountered difficulty in the endeavour. Yeovil’s Tom James saw his Hawthorns move collapse in the concluding stages, and were beaten to the loan of Chelsea’s Ola Aina by Derby.
