West Bromwich Albion forward Jay Rodriguez has opened up on his partnership with on-loan striker Dwight Gayle, citing “communication” as the reason for the pair’s good form, as per a report from Birmingham Live.
The duo, who currently have seven goals between them, have been impressive under Darren Moore this season, with Gayle netting three times, including two goals against Stoke City.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez has been in similarly good form to his new striker partner, netting four times so far this campaign, including three penalties.
The Baggies, who have currently scored the most goals in the division, appear to be getting the best out of Gayle, who netted 19 goals in his last stint in the Championship with Newcastle United.
Rodriguez is not fazed by possibly being overshadowed by the form of Gayle, however, as he lavished praise on his strike partner.
It’s really good to play with Dwight. He’s come in and he’s a great lad off the field. He’s fit in perfectly. The stuff he does on the field; he’s quick, he’s sharp, he works hard. We’ve seen how good his finishing is.
The first goal, especially against Stoke, was different level. It was a key moment for us to score and he kept a cool head.
The pair will look to continue their success up front against their next opponents Birmingham City, who currently sit in 20th position.
