West Brom trialist set for Walsall move
West Brom trialist Russell Martin is poised to join League One side Walsall as a player-coach this week.
According to Sky Sports, Martin will make the move official on Friday and could even make his debut against Luton at the weekend.
Martin is a free agent after he was released by Norwich – a year early – at the end of August.
The central defender spent the second half of last season on loan to Rangers in Scotland, where he struggled to find his best form.
He was on trial with West Brom last month, alongside Wes Hoolahan, but was unable to earn a deal with the Championship outfit.
Wes Hoolahan earned himself a contract and has gone on to make several first-team appearances since.
Darren Moore, however, was less convinced by Martin and was not prepared to offer him a deal for the rest of the season.
