Darren Moore’s side were among the favourites to land promotion to the Premier League heading into the new season.

While it took them a bit of time to find their feet in the Championship, West Brom are now living up to that tag of promotion candidates.

Ex-Premier League clubs can often struggle in the immediate aftermath of dropping out of the top flight. You only have to look at Sunderland’s back-to-back relegations to see how difficult it can be.

However, that didn’t stop people backing Moore and West Brom for a good season. Most online bookmakers had the club among the favourites go up and you only have to look at the manor of which Moore finished the season in the Premier League to see why. Although it ended in relegation, it was a largely positive experience for all involved.

The Baggies currently sit fourth in the Championship table, right in amongst the top six looking to win a place back in the top flight.

Thanks to goals of both Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle, Darren Moore has found a perfect blend of youth and experience in his current squad.

Moore has been settled in his system at the Hawthorns, but with the January window approaching, he is facing a crucial period in his bid to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

His moves in the transfer market since taking charge of West Brom have been very successful.

The aforementioned Gayle has been among the goals and cemented himself as one of the most deadly strikers in the division.

Harvey Barnes, a loan signing from Premier League side Leicester City has had fans purring at his playmaking abilities.

However, Moore cannot afford to sleep on the quality the Baggies have shown throughout the first half of the season.

A big January addition could go a long way to providing a necessary boost that the club need to see them over the line.

West Brom will be aware of the difficulties that come with falling into the play-off spots at a late stage, so they’ll be eager to maintain momentum.

Moore may want to add another option to his strike force to ensure that he is protected against injuries in the final third.

Should either Gayle or Rodriguez be sidelined for an extended period of time, the consequences could be huge on the Baggies’ promotion chances.

Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi and Blackburn’s Bradley Back have been linked with moves and the latter is a player that could certainly help the Baggies prepare for a Premier League return.

Dack has been heavily linked with a move to West Brom after impressing in League One and the Championship for Blackburn.

Tottenham have also been credited with an interest and while any potential suitor may have to spend big, he certainly has the talent to carry West Brom over the line in the second tier, while also stepping up to the mark in the Premier League.

Despite interest from Tottenham, Moore will be hoping the lure of regular first-team football, something that would hard to secure under Mauricio Pochettino, can help the Baggies in pursuit of the talented midfield maestro.
