On loan, West Brom defender Dara O’Shea has been named the Checkatrade player of the group stages for his performances for Exeter City.

The 19-year-old was pivotal in the “Grecians” not conceding a single goal in the group stages in three hotly contested fixtures.

Featuring against Yeovil Town, West Ham’s under-21’s and Bristol Rovers the Irishman has been near perfect at the back for Matt Taylor’s side.

Due to his good form in the Checkatrade trophy, the defender has featured in Exeter’s last three league games.

Joining the Baggies at 16 after a series of impressive performances for St.Kevin’s boys the youngster was sent to Exeter City on loan in the Summer transfer window.

At 19 years old it is still early days for the Dublin native. But with experience on loan at Hereford – where he spent a short stay with -and now with 7th placed Exeter City the loan spell could prove pivotal in the youngster’s development.

As reported by Express and star the youngster said regarding his the award:

It feels great, it’s nice to be recognised for your performances.

I think I defended well from the fact that we kept three clean sheets, but I think as a team we defended really well.

His impressive form in league Two has caught the eye of former Jamaican international and Albion loans Manager Deon Burton who said regarding the youngster’s performances.

I’ve watched him in his last three or four games and he’s been very impressive. 

I know that everyone at Exeter is delighted with his contribution so far.

He started the season only really playing in the cup games, but is now playing week-in, week out.

O’Shea will be hoping to continue his good form as Exeter take on high flying Bury.
