West Bromwich Albion have successfully found their way into the hat for the FA Cup fourth round draw after a 1-0 victory against Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon at The Hawthorns.
The only goal of the game came in the first half after a cross from Albion Stalwart Chris Brunt found an unmarked Bakary Sako who just got enough on his header to power it past the Wigan keeper.
Albion always looked the better side but never managed to find the second goal to kill off the game. Wigan managed to muster up a couple of half chances but never really got a foothold in the game.
The Baggies made a host of changes and went with a mix of youth and experience in the side as Darren Moore gives valuable minutes to fringe players while keeping regular starters fit. Here’s how we rated the Albion players after their performance today.
GK - Jonathan Bond - 7
One Albion appearance, one clean sheet. Made one decent save and distributed well.
RB - Mason Holgate - 7
A composed debut from the loanee, got forward well too.
CB - Kyle Bartley - 8
His best performance in an Albion shirt. Loads of clearances and made some great passes.
CB - Tosin Adarabioyo - 6
Looked a little shaky at times but nothing too bad.
LB - Conor Townsend - 6
Struggled to get into the game and left space down his side.
CM - Chris Brunt - 8
A real captains performance. Dictated the tempo and provided the assist.
CM - Rekeem Harper - 9
A great showing by the youngster who grew into the game and made some powerful runs.
CM - Sam Field - 6
Looked a yard off the pace and gave the ball away the most out the midfield trio.
CAM - Wes Hoolahan - 8
Covered every blade of grass and never stopped running.
ST - Jonathan Leko - 9
Get him in the first team! A coming of age performance by Leko who ran the Wigan defence all over the place and constantly wanted the ball.
ST - Bakary Sako - 7
Took his goal well. Sometimes looks a world beater, sometimes looks awful.
Edwards and Robson Kanu – 6.
Morrison – Not enough time.
