Salomon Rondon’s potential permanent switch to Newcastle at the end of the season has been thrown into doubt.
According to The Mirror, Newcastle want to sign younger players and could opt against completing a permanent deal for the reliable striker.
The report claims that Rafa Benitez wants to keep Rondon and add more experience to his team, but Newcastle are eager for Benitez to compromise and bring in some fresh talent.
Rondon is currently on loan to Newcastle from West Brom, in a deal which saw Dwight Gayle join the Baggies on loan last summer.
The deal has been a huge success, with Rondon scoring eight and assisting five in the Premier League for Newcastle, and Gayle has 16 goals and two assists in the Championship for West Brom.
Rondon is said to be valued at £16.5m, due to his excellent form for Newcastle this season. There is no mention of talks between the two clubs over a permanent deal, however.
