West Brom have opened talks over a deal to hire Danny Cowley as a permanent replacement for Darren Moore.
According to reports from Nick Mashiter, talks have started with the Lincoln boss one of four managers on a shortlist for the club.
Jimmy Shan replaced Moore on an interim basis but is unlikely to be given the job full time.
Former Brighton boss Chris Hughton and Michael O’Neill are also believed to be contenders for the job.
Cowley, working alongside his brother, has received huge praise for the job he has done at Lincoln, taking them from the National League to League One by winning the League Two title this season.
He would certainly represent a change in direction for West Brom, who have fallen victim to favouring the ‘tried and tested’ managers in the past.
While it would be a big step up, Cowley has shown he deserves the chance to try himself at a higher level.
Who else is in the running for the West Brom job?
The ex-Brighton boss could be offered an immediate route back into football after being sacked by the Premier League side.
Could Michael O’Neill be tempted by a return to club management? He is reportedly one of the contenders.
Michael Appleton is being linked with a return to the club, with the former midfielder eager to prove himself as a manager.
Former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has also been linked but his wage demands could prove to be too expensive for the club.
