West Brom’s 2018/19 season came to a close earlier this month as they were knocked out of the play-offs by Aston Villa on penalties.
The Baggies lost 2-1 in the first-leg at Villa Park before beating their rivals 1-0 at The Hawthorns in the return leg, only to go out in the penalty shootout.
This was after the club achieved a 4th place finish in the Championship, finishing nine points off the automatic places and 14 off the title.
Darren Moore started the season in charge but was replaced by Jimmy Shan in March, who saw out the rest of the season.
The club are yet to appoint Moore’s full-time successor, but planning will still be underway as the West Brom prepare for another season back down in the Championship.
With that in mind, the club will have to cut back some cuts and possibly enter the loan market to find some good deals. Here are some players West Brom could sign on loan…
After an impressive five months at the club, West Brom could look to bring Holgate in on loan for entire season to help him develop his game. The English fullback can get caught out at the back at times, but offers a lot going forward on the ball.
If West Brom are unable to sign Holgate again, they could target Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters. The highly-rated Spurs defender is yet to taste a full season of first-team football and could benefit from a year at West Brom.
After an impressive season on loan to Wigan in the Championship, West Brom could offer James the chance to compete at the top end of the table. The talented youngster can play at right-back or in central midfield.
Kwasi Okyere Wriedt
The impressive forward has been scoring goals aplenty for Bayern’s reserve side this season and West Brom could attempt to snap him up on loan to replace Dwight Gayle this summer following his return to Newcastle.
Greenwood was given a chance to impress in United’s first team towards the end of the season and showed promise in his limited time on the pitch. He could benefit from a season on loan to West Brom in the Championship to hone his skills.
The Southampton midfielder has impressed at Blackburn and Norwich on loan in recent seasons. West Brom could try to give him a third straight season in the Championship.
Following Norwich’s promotion to the Premier League, they could look to move on some of their fringe players. If they do, West Brom should look to sign Cantwell on loan. The promising English midfielder could really kick on next season.
It’s no secret that West Brom need a striker this summer and Nketiah could fit the bill. He’s quick, has good movement, and can finish. The youngster could prove to be a shrewd signing for the Baggies.
