West Brom were one of the favourites to bounce straight back to the Premier League last season in the Championship.
The Baggies started off strongly and were contenders for most of the season, eventually finishing 4th in the table – despite sacking Darren Moore in March and appointing Jimmy Shan as caretaker.
Harvey Barnes spent the first half of the season at the club, on loan from Leicester, and was sensational as an attacking midfielder/winger for Moore’s side, before being recalled in January.
West Brom were unable to replace him effectively and it cost them, as they struggled towards the end of the season and were knocked out in the semi-finals of the play-offs by local rivals Aston Villa.
With Slaven Bilic now the new manager of the club, he will surely be looking to improve his options in that area of the pitch. So, here are some attacking midfielders West Brom could target this summer…
Dani Olmo
The Spanish midfielder can play out wide or through the middle behind the striker, like Barnes, and would be a superb signing for the Baggies. He would add the quality behind the striker that West Brom have been missing for several months.
Filip Krovinovic
The Croatian midfielder has already been linked with a loan move to the club. The Benfica playmaker suffered an ACL injury last year and is looking for regular football to return to his best.
Todd Cantwell
The Norwich attacking midfielder struggled to break into their starting XI last season and could be available on loan this summer. West Brom could snap him up and look to unlock his potential in the Championship.
Bradley Dack
Dack has been linked with a move to West Brom in the past and enjoyed a great season with Blackburn. The Englishman would be an impressive signing for the Baggies if they could pull it off.
Bersant Celina
West Brom could look to raid Championship rivals Swansea and sign Bersant Celina. The former Manchester City man is an exceptional dribbler with a good eye for a pass.
Emile Smith-Rowe
Smith-Rowe is highly rated at Arsenal, but didn’t have the best of luck on loan to Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season. He could now be tempted by a Championship loan to play regular first-team football.
Tom Rogic
Rogic has been a reliable performer for Celtic over the years and could be ready to test himself in England. He would be an interesting addition to Celtic’s current squad.
Luke Freeman
Freeman enjoyed another good season with QPR in the Championship and has been linked with West Brom in the past. He could be a shrewd addition to Bilic’s squad, with his crisp passing and impressive dribbling ability.
