West Brom have missed out on signing Sporting Clube de Portugal winger Matheus Pereira, according to Sky Sports.
The winger, who spent last season on loan at FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga, will not be moving to the Hawthorns after Albion were priced out over a potential move to England.
Sporting demanded too high a fee for Albion, who already had to abandon plans to sign Dwight Gayle on a permanent deal due to financial constraints.
Albion were very keen over a deal for Pereira, but have now been priced out of a potential deal.
The winger was arguably one of Nurnberg’s best stars last season, scoring three goals and assisting twice as his side failed to avoid the drop to the second tier of German football.
Slaven Bilic has already secured one loan from Portugal this transfer window, after beating Norwich to the signing of Filip Krovinovic of Benfica.
The Croatian became Albion’s first recruit of the summer, as Bilic looks to rebuild his squad and lead the Baggies back to the top flight.
