La Liga side Espanyol have joined West Brom in the race to land former Barcelona youngster Ivan Balliu this summer.
Spanish outlet Sport, cited by Sports Witness, claim that the Baggies and Espanyol are leading the race to land the highly-rated Albanian international on a free transfer.
Fellow Spanish side Real Valladolid and French outfit RC Lens are also keen on the 27-year-old follwoing his surprise summer release from Metz.
Balliu was a regular for his former side during his four-year stint in France, playing a key role in helping the club back to Ligue 1 last season.
West Brom boss Slaven Bilic is tracking the right-back, with the Baggies currently short on full-back options.
Queens Park Rangers’ Darnell Furlong is thought to be closing in on a £1.5 million move to The Hawthorns, so securing Balliu’s services on a free transfer could be another excellent piece of business by the Baggies.
Four more potential arrivals at The Hawthorns
West Brom have been linked with a move for Brentford’s Romaine Sawyers. The box-to-box midfielder is also attracting interest from Leeds United and Celtic.
Despite recent reports saying that a deal would no longer take place this summer, West Brom are still thought to be in talks with Sporting Lisbon over the possible signing of winger Matheus Pereira.
The Baggies have reportedly enquired over the possibility of bringing Mason Holgate back to The Hawthorns for a second loan spell.
The club have been tracking Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah ahead of a potential season-long loan. Championship rivals Fulham are also keen on the 20-year-old’s services.
