West Brom take on high flying Leeds United at The Hawthorns on New Years Day, looking to regain top spot in the Championship.
The Baggies were overtaken due to Leeds’ dramatic 5-4 win over Birmingham City, whilst Albion were beaten comfortably 2-0 by Middlesbrough.
Slaven Bilic’s men will be looking to get back on track in 2020 and get their own back on Leeds, who inflicted Albion’s first defeat of the season, beating them 1-0 at Elland Road.
However, the Baggies will have fond memories themselves as they beat the visitors 4-1 the last time they met at The Hawthorns.
A win for Albion would be a massive boost to their promotion charge and they will not want to see the gap between themselves and third place get any smaller.
Leeds have quality all over the pitch and are one of the favourites to get back to the Premier League and end their 17 year exile from it.
We’ve taken a look at four Leeds players that could cause Albion problems on New Year’s Day:
Ben White
The talented defender is on loan at the Whites from Brighton and the young centre back has impressed immensely so far, being the core to a side that has conceded the joint-fewest amount of goals in the division. He will surely be a stern force in the way as Albion look to break Leeds down.
Luke Ayling
Ayling was a fantastic contributor in the 5-4 win over Birmingham. He has great quality, particularly going forward, and he loves to get to the byline to get balls into the box. The left full-back for Albion will have a tough evening keeping up with the lively wing-back.
Helder Costa
The Portuguese winger is on loan from Wolves and has shown that he is a threat in the Championship. He finished off a lovely team goal in the win over Birmingham and is coming into this game on form. He is pacy and tricky so the Baggies defence will have a tough job trying to keep him quiet.
Patrick Bamford
Bamford wasn’t fit enough to be in the squad at Birmingham but Bielsa is hoping he will be available for this massive tie. We know he can score goals for fun in the Championship and he has 10 goals already this campaign. The Albion defence will find it difficult to make sure he doesn’t get on the scoresheet.
