Part of Hawthorns roof blown off in strong winds
UPDATE 7:55pm: According to local residents, the roof of the Hawthorns has not blown off and the original report below was incorrect.
According to one local who had been in touch with us, the roof of a building near to the stadium was blown off and the stadium itself is fine.
West Bromwich Albion’s promotion six-pointer against Preston North End on Tuesday night could potentially be in doubt due to extreme weather conditions.
Strong winds have hit the UK today and it seems like the Hawthorns has succumbed to stadium damage as a result.
In a worrying event, West Midlands Roads have confirmed via Twitter that part of the stadium’s roof has in fact blown off amidst the windy conditions.
They have also stated that thee fire service have closed Birmingham Road in both directions for safety reasons, as well as warning motorists to avoid the area.

Preston, sixth in the Championship, are set to travel to face the Baggies on Tuesday, as both clubs look to strengthen their bid for promotion to the Premier League.
Although there has been no suggestion of the incident affecting the match yet, it will probably be worth keeping an eye on social media and the news for updates.
