West Brom are in talks to sign veteran defender Branislav Ivanovic on a free transfer, according to a report from Russian outlet Championat.
The 36-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract at Zenit Saint Petersburg expired and Slaven Bilic is seemingly interested in signing the defender to help him with his aim of keeping Albion in the Premier League this season.
Ivanovic is no stranger to Premier League football as he spent ten years at Chelsea between 2007 and 2017, winning three league titles and the Champions League, as well as three FA Cups, the League Cup and the Europa League.

Signing 36-year-old players is hardly a move that has any long-term thinking behind it but for a season, and such an important season at that, it makes sense for Bilic to look at an experienced defender like Ivanovic as West Brom will undoubtedly come under pressure at the back numerous times throughout the upcoming campaign.
If the salary is right and if Ivanovic’s mentality and desire to win are as strong as ever, then he could be a very handy addition to the West Brom squad, albeit only for the short-term.
