West Brom will look to put their Premier League disappointment behind them when they take on newly-promoted League 2 side Harrogate Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies will be aiming to pick up their first win of the campaign, which would see them take on Southampton or Brentford at home, if they are to progress.
Albion boss Slaven Bilic is expected to make a raft of changes, with Saturday’s Premier League clash against Everton seen as more significant.
This cup encounter couls give youngsters like Rekeem Harper, Kyle Edwards and Sam Field all chances to get some minutes under their belts, whilst there are debuts likely to be handed out to David Button and Cedric Kipre.
In terms of team news, both Conor Townsend and Kenneth Zohore remain injury doubts after they didn’t make the bench in the defeat to Leicester City.
Here’s how we think WBA will lineup:
GK: David Button
Now seen as the second choice goalkeeper, Button is likely to be handed starts in the cup games as he aims to test Sam Johnstone for the number one jersey. Set to make his debut.
RB: Lee Peltier
Peltier recently signed a one-year contract extension and will add more depth to the defensive ranks. Set to start for his first senior game for the club as Furlong looks set to be rested after completing the Leicester game.
CB: Cedric Kipre
Kipre is one of six summer additions brought in, arriving from Wigan Athletic. Was of a bit of a surprise to not see him on the bench at least on Sunday, but I expect him to make his debut in this cup game.
CB: Ahmed Hegazi
Kyle Bartley was preferred ahead of Hegazi on Sunday, which in-turn suggests that the Egyptian will be being saved for this game. Set to start in defence.
LB: Conor Townsend
Townsend is still a doubt for this game but should start if fit for the match with Kieran Gibbs’s fitness looking to not be pressured too much after he completed 90 minutes on Sunday.
CM: Sam Field
Sam Field has been a man rarely used under Slaven Bilic after spending last season on loan at Charlton Athletic. Now back at the Baggies, he is expected to play a key role in the cup matches as he looks to get match fit.
CM: Rekeem Harper
Harper came on for a brief spell against Leicester, but the game had already gone at that point. Another youngster set to be given more minutes in the cup.
LW: Kyle Edwards
Edwards, like Harper was another that had a cameo role for his Premier League debut. Expected to start on the left side with Diangana set to be rested.
RW: Kamil Grosicki
The Polish international was an unused substitute in the defeat to Leicester. Set to start to gain minutes and push for involvement at Everton.
ST: Hal Robson-Kanu
Robson-Kanu came on for the final 25 minutes of the Leicester game but failed to majorly impact the game. With the limited minutes in his opening game, he’s set to get a good run out in this cup fixture.
ST: Charlie Austin
Austin was another unused substitute on Sunday and will be looking to gain sharpness in a competitive game. Bilic looks set to start with two strikers up top and Austin is set to partner Robson-Kanu this evening.
