West Bromwich Albion have held talks with Rennes regarding the signing of striker Mbaye Niang on loan, as per a report by the Express & Star.

Slaven Bilic has reportedly added the Senegal international to a list of targets as he tries to bring a striker in before the transfer window closes.

Niang, who represented Watford during a loan spell in 2017/18, is believed to want to return to the Premier League and was left out of the Rennes squad for their French Ligue 1 clash with Monaco over the weekend.

Now 25, Niang caused a stir in his early career when he joined AC Milan from French side Caen in 2012 aged just 17.

After initially hitting the ground running, the striker found his chances diminishing before he was loaned out from the San Siro on four separate occasions, prior to sealing a permanent switch to Torino.

Without making an appearance, Niang then left the Italian side for Rennes in 2018, where he has since reignited his form, scoring 21 league goals in 54 appearances.

Having already been linked with Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant and Watford’s Andre Gray, it seems this may be Bilic widening his net should he fail to land his top targets.

With Bilic seemingly desperate to get another striker through the door at The Hawthorns, Niang presents an affordable option with experience of the English top-flight.
