Having joined West Bromwich Albion on a four-year deal in September 2020, Cedric Kipre could already be on his way out of The Hawthorns in January as he has spent his debut season at the club on the periphery.

The 24-year-old finds himself behind Semi Ajayi, Kyle Bartley, Dara O’Shea and Branislav Ivanovic in the pecking order, so he would likely have to leave Albion to get game-time.

Journalist Alan Nixon believes Blackburn “must have a chance” of signing Kipre before the January transfer window shuts, claiming as such on Twitter, and it seems unlikely that the Baggies will stand in his way.

Kipre has made only three appearances from a possible 20 for West Brom, spending most of the season as an unused substitute or out of the matchday squad altogether.

Slaven Bilic routinely overlooked the French defender and Sam Allardyce has so far done the same, so it’s hard to see Kipre seeing out the remaining three years of his Albion contract.

Blackburn have Daniel Ayala, Darragh Lenihan, Derrick Williams and Scott Wharton at their disposal, but Ayala and Williams had spells out with injury while Wharton has been out since early December, so Kipre probably has a better chance of game-time at Ewood Park than The Hawthorns.

Nixon didn’t say what type of deal could be on the table, but Blackburn might be able to sign Kipre on loan for the remainder of the season.
