West Bromwich Albion are 19th out of 20 teams for average possession per game in the Premier League (41.8%), 19th for average pass completion (75%) and 20th for average shots per game (8.2) [via WhoScored], so it’s no surprise that Sam Allardyce might want to sign a midfielder this month.

Albion need a playmaker who can create opportunities for the forwards as they are struggling to carve teams open and Football Insider claimed that Clement Grenier is on their radar. The Midlands outfit have offered a contract to the 30-year-old, but it remains to be seen whether they are successful.

Grenier has made 14 appearances in all competitions for Rennes this season, scoring two goals and supplying one assist. In nine Ligue 1 outings, the French international has created 13 chances, completed 82% of his 395 passes and won seven aerial duels and seven tackles (WhoScored).

The 30-year-old was once linked with Arsenal and Liverpool, but he is out of contract in the summer and Football Insider claimed that he would not put pen to paper on a potential extension.

Rennes may want to cash in on Grenier now rather than lose him for nothing in July, so West Brom could land his signature before the winter transfer window shuts.

He may be in the latter years of his career, but the 30-year-old can still be an effective creative outlet, something from which Albion could certainly benefit given their struggles this season.
