West Brom signed Mbaye Diagne on loan from Galatasaray last month and the 29-year-old has had an instant impact at The Hawthorns, supplying an assist on his Albion debut and scoring his first goal in his fourth appearance for the club (Transfermarkt).

Diagne has had a hand in two goals in three Premier League starts this season, winning 21 aerial duels, creating two chances and boasting a 57% shot accuracy (WhoScored). He is the target man Sam Allardyce has needed and Albion have the opportunity to sign him permanently.

Steve Madeley of The Athletic has said that West Brom have an option to buy Diagne at the end of the season once his loan expires, but it remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old would agree personal terms if they are relegated to the Championship. It’s also curious why Galatasaray are so keen to let Diagne go given his impressive scoring record.

The Senegal international boasts 22 goals and two assists from 39 games for the Turkish outfit (Transfermarkt) and scored 11 goals in 19 games this season before joining the Baggies. He would be quite a capture by Albion if they can pull it off, but any such move could depend on whether they manage to avoid relegation.

Diagne looks a shrewd acquisition from what we’ve seen of him so far and it’s even more impressive that West Brom have a buying option attached.

Whether they can make the most of that neat clause, however, is the burning question once the loan deal comes to a climax.
