Mbaye Diagne joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan from Galatasaray and has taken little time to impress. The 29-year-old’s had a hand in two goals from three Premier League starts (Transfermarkt) and has the option to turn his loan move permanent this summer.

West Brom have been crying out for a more prolific striker as Callum Robinson, Karlan Grant and Hal Robson-Kanu have only scored three Premier League goals between them this season (Transfermarkt), so Kevin Campbell believes Albion could sign Diagne if he continues his bright start to life in the Midlands.

He told Football Insider: “Diagne is showing very promising signs. He is quick, strong, aggressive and he took his goal brilliantly against Manchester United. Yes, he missed a couple but that is a striker’s lot. There are chances that you won’t take. The most important thing is, he keeps getting in there.

“When you are down there you need someone who keeps getting in there, who is not afraid to have a go. I think he is doing himself a lot of justice. The club will of course have a close eye on his progress. I expect them to exercise the option-to-buy clause if he continues on this path.”

Diagne scored 22 goals and made two assists in 39 games for Galatasaray (Transfermarkt) between 2019 and 2021 before he made the switch to West Brom. He bagged nine goals in 15 Super Lig games this season alone (Transfermarkt), so there’s no reason why the Baggies should fear signing him permanently.

Whether Diagne is open to joining the club should they be relegated from the Premier League is unknown, however.

Diagne would be a fantastic acquisition for West Brom, but he might be hard to lure permanently without Premier League status. The Midlands outfit are sure to try this summer, but they may not be successful.
