Okay Yokuslu has only been a West Bromwich Albion player for three weeks, but he already looks a fantastic acquisition. The Baggies are 20th in the Premier League for average possession per game and 1st for most shots conceded, so they needed someone who could break up play in midfield and protect the defence.

Yokuslu fits the bill perfectly. The 26-year-old has made four tackles, given away four fouls, made four interceptions, won 7/8 aerial duels and made five clearances (WhoScored). He’s also effective at driving with the ball from deep, boasting a 100% dribble success rate while winning six free-kicks.

Sam Allardyce was full of praise for the Turkish international, telling the Express and Star: “The biggest plus for me is his range of passing. I think we’ll see more of that.

“I can’t put him in the category of Fernando Hierro, or Ivan Campo, but he’s not far off. They were Real Madrid greats when they were playing for that club, but he’s certainly got a very good passing range like those two boys had.

“If I’m talking about him in the same light as them, it’s a big compliment for him. Hopefully, we’ll see him opening up defences more from that position and giving players the freedom to release themselves and the opportunity to attack because he finds them with the right pass.”

Yokuslu joined Albion on a season-long loan from Celta Vigo but doesn’t have the option to turn his move permanent this summer. He’s expected to return to the Estadio Municipal de Balaídos when the campaign comes to a close which will be a blow to the Baggies.

West Brom are 19th in the Premier League and 11 points adrift of safety with 13 games remaining, so it’s hard to see them staying up. Yokuslu’s performances may give them a fighting chance, however.
