West Bromwich Albion enjoyed a 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday and Dara O’Shea was one of many players who impressed, helping the Baggies keep a clean sheet at home for the first time since November 2020.

The 21-year-old started alongside Kyle Bartley at centre-back as Semi Ajayi was suspended and Joseph Masi of the Express and Star says his ‘excellent’ performance has given Sam Allardyce a ‘selection headache’ ahead of Thursday’s meeting with Everton.

He wrote on Saturday: “Back in the side with Semi Ajayi suspended, O’Shea was excellent alongside Kyle Bartley at the heart of the defence. Strong in the air, composed on the ground and also willing to put his body on the line, the defender has given Sam Allardyce a selection headache.”

Ajayi has been a regular at centre-back and was in good form alongside Bartley before being sent off in the draw with Burnley, so there is still a chance he is brought back in on Thursday.

Allardyce has previously rewarded his players for a good performance by keeping the same starting XI and he has shown a fondness for O’Shea in the past – playing him in nine consecutive Premier League games (Transfermarkt) after replacing Slaven Bilic – so it’s no guarantee that the 21-year-old misses out.

This is a good headache for the Albion manager to have. West Brom have conceded only one goal in their last three games and have successfully used two different centre-back pairings, so fans may not mind which player gets the nod.
