West Bromwich Albion suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Everton on Thursday, but Okay Yokuslu came away with praise from some supporters for his performance at the Hawthorns.

The 26-year-old has built up a reputation for being combative and adept at turning over possession, but his composure on the ball and high levels of retention stood out against Everton.

Against the Toffees, Yokuslu played for 90 minutes, had 71 touches, picked up a booking, won one aerial duel, completed 96.6% of his 58 passes, created one chance, had a 100% accuracy with six long balls, made one interception, blocked one shot, made two clearances, gave away one foul and won one freekick (WhoScored).

The Turkish international has made five appearances for West Brom since joining on a season-long loan from Celta Vigo in February, amassing 349 minutes of playing time (Transfermarkt). Yokuslu has been dribbled past only twice, has averaged a tackle (5) or interception (9) every 25 minutes and boasts an 80% dribble success rate (WhoScored), so he’s made a real impact in the last month.

Yokuslu looks a great player for West Brom, but fans fear he won’t stick around beyond the season. Albion are 19th in the Premier League and nine points adrift of safety, so their impending relegation might put off Yokuslu from turning the move permanent.
