There’s a lot of talks on social media about Rekeem Harper leaving West Bromwich Albion for Ipswich Town. Independent Ipswich Town newsfeed TWTD tweeted a story on Wednesday evening that said the 21-year-old was closing in on a move to Portman Road.
TWTD believe Ipswich have all but agreed a deal worth £500k to sign Harper and West Brom are willing to let him go. Given Harper made only four appearances in all competitions for Albion last season, it’s no surprise he’s fallen down the pecking order.
Why would West Brom sell Harper?
It is surprising Harper is being let go. West Brom have been relegated from the Premier League, so the England youth international stands a better chance of getting playing time next season, but clearly the Baggies aren’t happy with his development.
The 21-year-old wasn’t commanding a starting place when Albion were playing Championship football in 2019/20, so he’s not going forwards. And after nearly getting relegated during a loan spell at Birmingham City, Harper’s stock isn’t too high right now.
Ipswich are plying their trade in League One and have been stuck in the third tier for two seasons, so the move is a step down. He’s young enough to bounce back, however.
