After impressing at West Bromwich Albion last season, Conor Gallagher was tipped for another Premier League move this summer when he returned to parent club Chelsea. Crystal Palace were leading the race for his signature and now it appears they’ve landed their man.
The 21-year-old was named Young Player of the Season for the 2020/21 campaign, so it will hurt West Brom supporters seeing him with another top-flight side while the Baggies ply their trade in the Championship. There’s no room for sentiment, however, as Gallagher posted pictures on his Instagram story celebrating the season-long loan move.
Gallagher made 32 appearances in all competitions for West Brom last season, scoring two goals with two assists. The Baggies now have a hole to fill, however, as a number of midfielders departed over the summer – Gallagher returned to Chelsea, Ainsley Maitland-Niles returned to Arsenal, Sam Field joined Queens Park Rangers and Rekeem Harper joined Ipswich Town.
West Brom signed Alex Mowatt from Barnsley to accompany Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore, but they may need one or two more new faces in the engine room. Unfortunately, it won’t be Gallagher returning.
