Sam Johnstone is expected to leave West Bromwich Albion this summer as he’s been linked with a host of Premier League clubs and may not want to drop down to the Championship this coming season, but he’s still on the Albion books and has now posted on his Instagram story about returning to training.
The 28-year-old has been with the England national team for the 2020 European Championships and was afforded a late summer break after the tournament ended, meaning he missed a number of West Brom’s pre-season friendlies.
Johnstone didn’t feature in Albion’s 1-0 win over Woking on July 16, 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on July 20 and 0-0 draw with Watford on July 24. It remains to be seen if he’ll play against Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon, however.
West Brom’s season begins in a week and Johnstone’s future still isn’t resolved, much to his ire. The 28-year-old stopper is out of contract in 2022 and could leave on a free transfer unless Albion either cash in early or manage to tie him down to a new deal.
