It’s no secret Matheus Pereira may have played his last game at West Bromwich Albion as he’s keen to stay in the Premier League and won’t want to drop down to the Championship.

The Baggies’ new manager Valerian Ismael admitted Sam Johnstone and Pereira were likely to leave this summer, but Pereira has taken matters into his own hands by issuing a public transfer request to force a move.

The 25-year-old insisted he wanted to be silent about leaving but wanted to set the record straight after being accused by Ismael of not committing. Pereira’s statement said “I want to leave” but also described a life-changing offer from a club that would financially set his family up for life.

Unsurprisingly, Pereira trended on social media and supporters couldn’t stop talking about the sensational post. Many have given their well-wishes to the Brazilian wide-man as he performed well despite Albion’s relegation while others condemned the post for being disrespectful.

Regardless of where fans stand on the issue, the likely outcome is a departure before the transfer window shuts. Leicester City, Aston Villa, West Ham and Qatar outfit Al-Hilal have been linked, but it remains to be seen where he’ll end up.
