Sam Johnstone posted a picture on his Instagram story of a training session that saw him making saves in goal ahead of West Bromwich Albion welcoming Queens Park Rangers to the Hawthorns on Friday evening.

The 28-year-old has been a regular between the sticks under Valerien Ismael and should start in goal against the Hoops, so he’s getting in one last full session before preparing for West Brom’s upcoming match.

West Brom’s shot-stopper also wished a happy birthday to Luke Simpson who is a goalkeeper at Kidderminster Harriers. The 27-year-old has never played with Johnstone, but the pair are friends as shown by the picture posted on his Instagram story.

Simpson currently operates in the National League North, but he’s briefly been at Leicester City and Watford in the past. He shared dozens of well-wishes on his own Instagram story as Johnstone’s message was one of many.

Johnstone was hoping to be playing Premier League football this season when West Ham United and Arsenal were linked, but he’s happy staying at West Brom for the season and doing his bit to get them back into the top-flight.

In other news, there’s little talk on social media as West Brom are linked with Michael Cooper
