West Bromwich Albion welcome Birmingham City to the Hawthorns on Friday evening and Matt Phillips has been training hard ahead of the clash to help the Baggies recover from suffering their first defeat of the season. Albion lost to Stoke City before the international break, ending their unbeaten start, so they need to respond.
Phillips has been a regular under Valerien Ismael, making 11 Championship appearances this season while scoring three goals with two assists, so he’s played a big role in West Brom’s bright start to the campaign. The 30-year-old posted a series of pictures on Instagram showing himself training with James Morrison, so it looks like he’s ready to face the Blues.
Albion are second in the Championship with 22 points from 11 games, boasting the second-best defensive record while scoring the third-most amount of goals. The Baggies went their first 10 matches without defeat before facing Stoke City, but they’ll be big favourites to pick up all three points against Birmingham.
Ismael’s men are 14 places and 10 points better off than the Blues in the table, boasting an unbeaten home record while City have lost their last two on the road, so West Brom could go into the weekend top.
