West Bromwich Albion suffered a 2-1 defeat to Swansea City on Wednesday evening and Kyle Bartley was one of many players criticised by supporters on social media for his performance.

The 30-year-old was easily beaten by Jamie Paterson’s aerial pass to Joel Piroe who beat the offside trap and scored to level the game after the hour mark. Bartley was then nutmegged by Jamie Paterson after Piroe’s pass found him on the edge of the box and resulted in him punting beyond Sam Johnstone.

Bartley made the fewest amount of tackles and interceptions among Albion’s defence against Swansea, so it wasn’t a vintage showing at the Liberty Stadium. He’s made 13 Championship appearances this season but can’t afford any more below-par performances like in midweek.

West Brom are third in the table with 25 points from 13 games, having lost two of their last three. The Baggies are six points adrift of leaders Bournemouth and can’t afford to drop more points when Bristol City come to the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon. Bartley will need to put in a much better showing too.
