West Bromwich Albion drew 0-0 away to Blackpool on Tuesday evening and Darnell Furlong was one of many players who underperformed. The 26-year-old was given a player rating of 5/10 by Birmingham Live and was criticised by fans on social media as a result.
Furlong was sloppy in possession and found his pocket pinched on more than one occasion. He also gave away a number of fouls, so it wasn’t a vintage performance at right-back and his place in the side may soon be up for grabs if things don’t improve.
Against Blackpool, Furlong played for 90 minutes, had 46 touches, won three aerial duels, completed 72.7% of his 22 passes, created one chance, whipped in two crosses, made four tackles, had one interception, gave away two fouls, failed to make clearance, had one shot and failed to register a successful dribble.
The 26-year-old has made 18 Championship appearances this season, notching three assists. He’s also picked up three yellow cards and one red card. Furlong has been a regular at right-back and right wing-back, but his performances need to improve.
West Brom are third in the Championship and seven points adrift of the automatic promotion spots. They face Nottingham Forest on Friday, November 26 and will be desperate to get a win.
